Various Methods of Garden Stones Dressing

08/30/2022

Nature provides stones in all sizes and shapes. These are removed from their thick beds through quarrying, and then broken down into smaller sizes for them to be useful. Quarrying is done using tools such as chisels and pickaxes or using machines. Most garden stones have to be refined for them to be usable for home naming or decoration.

Stone Dressing

This is the process of giving a stone the right size, shape, and finishing to make it usable and more appealing than the pieces of rocks obtained in a quarry. The process of stone dressing can be done either manually or mechanically. A dressed stone is beautiful and suitable for use in a specific part of a home or building.

Why is stone Dressing Important?

In both commercial and residential constructions, stones are an essential element. This is not only due to their unmatched strength, durability, and hardness but also due to their aesthetic value. You can transform stone surfaces to make them attractive. This applies to garden stones used for decoration purposes and those used for functionality, such as showing the address of a home or a business.

What are the Most Common Dressing Methods?

Stone dressing is an old practice that has seen improvement with more advanced tools. The below-described methods are some of the oldest yet still popular.

Hammer Dressing

This method involves breaking off all raised points of a rock, thus shaping the stone somewhat flat. This stone has no irregular or sharp corners and easily fits in masonry.

Pitched Dressing

This method uses a hammer to level out the edges of a stone block. However, the rest of the excess stone body is left untouched.

Chisel Drafting

This method introduces grooves and rafts on the four edges of a rock. Excess stone material from the center is then removed.

Garden stones come in all shapes and sizes. Engage a landscaper to help you choose the best stones for different purposes in your building or garden.
